The Painters’ District Council No. 2 formally endorsed Jim Barrett, a Democratic candidate for State Representative of the 97th District in South County, last week. Painters’ District Council No. 2 is a member of the International Union of Painters and Allies and represents over 3000 members in eleven local unions.
“I am honored to have the support of the hard working members of Painters District Council No.2. They, like me, recognize that getting the people of Missouri back to work in good paying jobs that support their families should be our first priority,” said Mr. Barrett.
Mr. Barrett’s campaign has been endorsed by Missouri/Kansas/Nebraska Conference of Teamsters, Teamster Joint Council 13, Teamsters Local 688, as well as State Treasurer Clint Zweifel, Rep. Vicki Englund (85th), Rep. Jeff Roorda (102nd), Rep. Tim Meadows (101st), and Rep. Kenny Biermann (17th). UFCW Local 655 and State Representatives Mike Talboy (House Democratic Campaign Committee Chair, 37th), Paul LeVota (Minority Floor Leader, 52nd) and J.C. Kuessner (Assistant Minority Floor Leader, 152nd), have all formally endorsed the campaign as well.
We attended a great workshop yesterday hosted by the Missouri Alliance for Retired Americans, a wonderful group that promotes legislative advocacy for retired Missourians. For more information, visit www.retiredamericans.org.
An article about the campaign was featured in the December 3 issue of the St. Louis Labor Tribune. The copy from that article by Kevin Madden is below.
Teamster Jim Barrett running for state rep in South County
Tesson Ferry- Jim Barrett, a member of Teamsters Local 688, is running as a
Democratic candidate for state representative in the 97th District of far
south St. Louis County.
The primary election will be in August and the general election in November.
Barrett, a 21-year Schnucks Warehouse employee, is an advocate of reforming
the Missouri tax-increment financing laws as well as the state¹s
open-records Sunshine Law.
Barrett said the reason he was running: ³There is a disconnect from the
kitchen tables of the 97th District to the House floor of Jefferson City.
“Our campaign is based upon the belief that only hard work with common-sense
solutions will lead us through these uncertain economic times,” he said.
Barrett has been endorsed by Teamsters Joint Council 13, Teamsters Local
688, the Missouri-Kansas-Nebraska Conference of Teamsters and UFCW Local
655.
He also has been endorsed by officeholders including State Treasurer Clint
Zweifel and a long list of state representatives.
Barrett is active with the South St. Louis Labor Legislative Club, the
Tesson Ferry Township Democratic Club and the Oakville Democratic Club.
